Amogy and LOTTE Fine Chemical partner to scale green ammonia-to-hydrogen and power in South Korea

LOTTE Fine Chemical operates Asia’s largest ammonia import, storage and distribution network

Amogy and LOTTE Fine Chemical are joining forces to accelerate the use of green ammonia for hydrogen production, power generation and marine applications in South Korea, bringing together ammonia infrastructure and ammonia-to-energy technology.
 
The companies have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore joint projects that could connect LOTTE Fine Chemical’s extensive ammonia supply, storage and distribution network with Amogy’s ammonia-cracking and power-generation systems.
 
The partnership comes as South Korea pushes to build out its clean ammonia and hydrogen ecosystem. LOTTE Fine Chemical operates Asia’s largest ammonia import, storage and distribution network and has already achieved the world’s first commercial import of green ammonia and the first domestic ship-bunkering supply using green ammonia.
 
Amogy’s technology is designed to crack ammonia into hydrogen and nitrogen, enabling on-site production of high-purity hydrogen as well as ammonia-to-power generation for stationary, distributed and marine applications.
 
The MoU focuses on three key areas.
 
Hydrogen refueling: LOTTE Fine Chemical would supply green ammonia through its international procurement and domestic infrastructure, while Amogy would deploy its ammonia-cracking technology to produce high-purity hydrogen on-site at hydrogen refueling stations.
 
Distributed power: At commercial and community-scale sites, LOTTE Fine Chemical would provide ammonia supply, storage and logistics, while Amogy would supply ammonia-to-power modules using fuel-cell or internal-combustion-engine configurations.
 
Marine applications: The companies will explore supplying ammonia to vessels equipped with Amogy’s ammonia-to-power systems, leveraging LOTTE Fine Chemical’s ammonia terminal at Ulsan Port and its ship-bunkering capabilities.
 
“As Korea continues to build out its clean ammonia and hydrogen infrastructure, partnerships that connect upstream supply with downstream technology are essential to accelerating deployment,” said Seonghoon Woo, CEO of Amogy. “LOTTE Fine Chemical's ammonia infrastructure, paired with our ammonia-to-hydrogen and ammonia-to-power technology, gives us a strong foundation to advance hydrogen refueling, distributed power, and marine applications across the region.”
 
LOTTE Fine Chemical said its established ammonia infrastructure could provide a platform for expanding clean ammonia into new energy applications.
 
“LFC has built the infrastructure to import, store, and supply ammonia safely and at scale, including the world’s first ship-bunkering supply of ammonia,” said Suk Min Hwang, Vice President of Ammonia Business Division at LOTTE Fine Chemical. “This collaboration with Amogy allows us to extend that infrastructure into new downstream applications, supporting Korea's transition to a clean ammonia and hydrogen economy.”
