Larsen & Toubro (L&T), through its Renewables (RENU) vertical, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ACWA Power for the Renewables & Grid scope of the landmark Yanbu Green Hydrogen Project in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The Yanbu Green Hydrogen Hub is envisioned as a fully integrated facility powered entirely by captive renewable electricity, harnessed from solar and wind sources. The Renewables & Grid scope of the project encompasses the development of multiple assets, including Solar PV and Wind power plants, a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), substations, and transmission infrastructure.

The MoU establishes a collaborative framework between the two companies to co-develop the optimal design configuration and achieve the desired performance benchmarks for this scope. Upon finalization and acceptance of the proposal, L&T is expected to enter into an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract for the project.

This strategic collaboration underscores L&T’s strong track record in EPC execution and integrated renewable energy solutions. It also reinforces both companies' shared commitment to delivering complex infrastructure projects that prioritize safety, quality, sustainability, and performance.

Marco Arcelli, Chief Executive Officer at ACWA Power, commented: “The rapid progress on the Yanbu Green Hydrogen Project reflects our unwavering commitment to supporting Saudi Arabia’s leadership role in the global energy transition. By producing and exporting green ammonia, we aim to support global decarbonization efforts and contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable future.”

T. Madhava Das, Member of the Board and Senior Executive Vice President (Utilities) at Larsen & Toubro, said: “Saudi Arabia has emerged as a global leader in clean energy development and industrial decarbonization, thanks to its visionary policies and initiatives. Strategically located between the East and the West, the Kingdom offers highly competitive renewable energy solutions and develops large-scale projects with clearly defined timelines. We are proud to support Saudi Arabia’s ambition of advancing regional and international clean energy integration, particularly along the India–Middle East–Europe Economic Corridor. This MoU with our esteemed partner ACWA Power marks a significant milestone in our journey of trusted collaboration.”

This partnership aligns with both companies’ long-term goals of enabling sustainable energy transformation and furthering the global green hydrogen economy.
