Jordan’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources on Sunday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with China’s UEG Green Hydrogen Development Holding Limited to prepare a feasibility study for a $1.155 billion green hydrogen production project in Jordan.

Minister of Energy Saleh Kharabsheh signed the MoU with United Energy Group Vice President Lei Guimin.

Kharabsheh said the agreement supports Jordan’s shift to clean energy and will help enhance the investment environment. He added that the ministry is ready to cooperate with the company in other sectors, including gas and oil.

The study will assess the feasibility of producing 200,000 tons of green ammonia annually for export, using desalinated seawater and renewable energy from Jordan’s most competitive sites. It will also outline land needs and technical phases of the project.
