NTPC Green Energy inks MoU with VOC Port Authority

This MoU intends furthering the green energy technologies in VOC Port and especially green hydrogen mobility scheme

NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), a subsidiary of NTPC Limited has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority (VOCPA) on 05th September 2025, in Tuticorin, Tamilnadu.

This MoU intends furthering the green energy technologies in VOC Port and especially green hydrogen mobility scheme. For this, a MoU was exchanged among Kishore Kumar Hota, CGM, NTPC and A. Ganesan, CME, VOCPA in the august presence of Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal, Minister for Social Welfare and Women Empowerment of Govt. of Tamilnadu Geeta Jeevan, Member of Legislature Assembly Nainar Nagendran, T K Ramachandran, Secretary, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Susanta Kumar Purohit, IRSEE, Chairman, VOCPA and Senior officials from Govt. of Tamilnadu, NTPC, VOCPA.

NGEL will setup a green hydrogen fuelling station in VOC Port along with hydrogen based Internal Combustion Engine trucks for the VOC port operation. This will open an option of phasing out fossil fuel trucks in favour clean and green fuels bringing decarbonisation and energy security.

NTPC is successfully operating the green hydrogen blending project at Surat, Gujarat for over two years and already taken similar mobility initiatives at Leh, Ladakh, Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, Bhubaneshwar, Odisha and Kandla Port, Gujarat.

NGEL is also developing the green hydrogen hub in Vishakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh and aims to reach 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032 with energy storage solutions.
