Planic's Omaezaki plant starts full operation

The Omaezaki Plant collects approximately 40,000 tons annually and aims to produce approximately 32,000 tons of recycled raw materials

K.K. Planic has announced that the Omaezaki Plant has started full operation on October 11, 2022.

Planic is one of the largest manufacturers of recycled plastics in Japan. The company processes crushed mixed plastics from cars and home appliances, and plastic products used at home. The plastics processed at the plant become recycled raw materials that can be used again for automobile parts and home appliances.

It has been technologically challenging to recycle mixed plastics used in automobile parts and they have undergone heat recovery instead of material recycling. However, the latest technology that Planic has introduced first in Japan enables "car-to-car recycling" to produce high-quality recycled plastics used as raw materials for automobile parts.

The Omaezaki Plant collects approximately 40,000 tons annually and aims to produce approximately 32,000 tons of recycled raw materials. Planic will contribute to the circular economy by recycling instead of heat recovery.

Planic was established in December 2018 as a joint venture of Veolia Japan K.K., Toyota Tsusho Corporation and Kojima Sangyo Co., Ltd. As a global company providing comprehensive environmental services, Veolia Japan provides engineering management, plant operation support, and raw material procurement from local governments.

As one of Japan's leading general trading companies, Toyota Tsusho supports the procurement of raw materials derived from cars and home appliances, as well as the sales of product resins.

As an automobile parts manufacturer, Kojima Sangyo supports resin compounds and automobile parts production technology. By leveraging the strengths of each company, the shareholders will create synergies and support Planic business.

Planic will contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions and achieve a circular economy in Japan by promoting plastic material recycling through the operation of the Omaezaki Plant while also contributing to the local community through the creation of new employment opportunities.
