Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corporation and Aramco have signed a non-binding MoU to explore a strategic collaboration aimed at bringing advanced sensing and artificial intelligence into complex industrial environments.

The partnership will combine Sony’s sensing, image-processing and edge AI technologies with Aramco’s vast industrial data, operational expertise, infrastructure and real-world use cases.

The companies will explore how these technologies can improve situational awareness, accelerate responses and unlock new applications for industrial AI.

Under the agreement, Aramco will provide domain expertise, data and infrastructure to test and evaluate Sony’s technologies in real-world industrial settings. Sony will contribute its capabilities in image sensing, edge AI and related technologies.

The collaboration will initially explore three broad areas:

Industrial sensing and situation monitoring: Using Sony’s advanced image sensing and AI technologies in industrial environments to strengthen situational awareness, leveraging Aramco’s infrastructure and data.

AI-enabled industrial intelligence: Combining Sony’s sensing and AI capabilities with Aramco’s industrial expertise to explore faster response and coordination capabilities.

Advanced intelligence integration: Exploring the integration of image and video intelligence with Aramco’s AI platforms to enable multimodal understanding and new industrial AI applications.

Aramco’s scale of operations, extensive data assets and more than 90 years of operational experience will provide a real-world environment for testing and developing emerging technologies.

Sony, meanwhile, will bring its sensing and AI expertise to support Aramco’s broader efforts to develop industrial AI applications across multiple domains.

Yoshinobu Takanuki, Chief Strategy Officer, Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corporation, said:"As industrial AI continues to evolve, we believe that the advancement and convergence of sensing technologies and AI will play a critical role in driving innovation across industrial fields.

"As physical AI becomes increasingly integrated into society, it is becoming more important than ever to accurately capture changes in the real world, including changes for equipment, people, objects, and the environment, and translate those insights into timely decisions and actions on site. We expect this collaboration will further expand the application of Sony's vision-sensing and AI technologies and help create new value across a broad range of industrial fields."

Sami A. Ajmi, Aramco Senior Vice President of Digital & Information Technology, said: “Technology and innovation are central to Aramco’s long-term strategy. By combining Aramco's deep operational expertise and extensive industrial data with Sony's advanced sensing and AI capabilities, we can develop practical solutions that enhance operational resilience and contribute to the evolution of industrial AI across multiple domains."
