Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu performed the ‘bhumi poojan’ for AM new green hydrogen and green ammonia production complex in Kakinada yesterday. Located on a 495-acre site formerly owned by Nagarjuna Fertilizers, the project is positioned to become the largest of its kind globally.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Naidu said, “The first production of 0.5 million metric tonnes of green ammonia is expected to be achieved by mid-2027 as part of AM Green’s annual production target of 1.5 million metric tonnes.” He said the world’s largest green hydrogen and green ammonia project was proposed by AM Green’s founder and group Chairman Anil Chalamalasetty.

"Today’s equipment erection ceremony marks the beginning of a new chapter for Andhra Pradesh as a leader in the clean energy transition," Naidu added.

The Chief Minister emphasized that green ammonia will benefit the state's soil health—addressing high nitrogen and salinity levels—while elevating Kakinada’s status on the global industrial stage.

“Produced in Kakinada, green ammonia will be supplied mostly to Europe, and Germany is the major importer. Much of the output is destined for European markets, specifically Germany, Naidu said.

AM Green will invest an additional Rs. 2,000 crore to deploy 2-GW alkaline electrolyzers at the Kakinada site.
