Biotalys scores first US state nod for EVOCA in Florida in key agtech milestone

EVOCA is designed to combat major fungal threats in fruits and vegetables

Biotalys has reached a major regulatory breakthrough, announcing that its protein-based biofungicide EVOCA has secured state registration in Florida—becoming the first AGROBODY biocontrol ever approved at US state level.

The approval by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services follows prior clearance of EVOCA’s broad label by the US Environmental Protection Agency. Together, the decisions reinforce the product’s regulatory strength and its positioning as a next-generation tool for sustainable crop protection.

EVOCA is designed to combat major fungal threats in fruits and vegetables, particularly Botrytis (grey mold) and powdery mildew—diseases that significantly impact high-value crops across the US and beyond.

Carlo Boutton, interim CEO of Biotalys, emphasized the strategic importance of the milestone: “We are proud to see EVOCA obtain state registration in Florida, as it sets the stage for the future of our protein-based biocontrol solutions.

"Florida is the second largest US state for the production of key fruits and vegetables such as strawberries, tomatoes and bell peppers that face significant challenges from diseases like Botrytis and powdery mildew.

"The first state-level approval for our novel biocontrol underscores our commitment to providing innovative tools to growers locally and validates our technology for continued product developments. We look forward to advancing sustainable crop protection and supporting growers with science-driven solutions that meet market demands both in terms of efficacy and sustainability.”
