INEOS Inovyn sells Italian chemical sites Rosignano & Tavazzano to Esseco Industrial

The Rosignano site—Italy’s largest domestic chlor-alkali plant—produces caustic soda and chlorine and employs more than 160 people

INEOS Inovyn has agreed to sell its shares in INOVYN Produzione Italia SpA, the company operating its Rosignano and Tavazzano sites in Italy, to Esseco Industrial.

The deal marks a significant reshaping of INEOS Inovyn’s Italian footprint, handing ownership of two key chemical production sites to the Italian industrial group, pending regulatory approvals expected to be completed in 2026.

The Rosignano site—Italy’s largest domestic chlor-alkali plant—produces caustic soda and chlorine and employs more than 160 people. The Tavazzano facility manufactures sodium hypochlorite and has a workforce of 25.

Together, the sites supply essential chemicals used across critical sectors including pharmaceuticals, energy, water treatment, food, defence, and construction.

Despite the sale, operations are set to continue unchanged in the near term. INEOS Inovyn will remain in control of both sites until the transaction closes, with no disruption expected to customer or supplier arrangements.

Its research and development activity at Rosignano will stay with INEOS Inovyn and be carved out, subject to any required legal consultation process.

The buyer, Esseco Industrial, is the industrial arm of the Esseco Group, an Italian chemical group with more than a century of history.

Now in its fourth generation, the company operates in 10 countries with eight production sites, including chlor-alkali facilities at Pieve Vergonte and Saline di Volterra. It employs around 725 people and serves approximately 2,500 customers across the organic and inorganic chemicals sector, with a strong focus on sulfur derivatives and chlor-alkali production.
