Mitsubishi Chemical to halt production of key epoxy resin grades by 2027

Continuing production of the affected grades has become unviable due to aging equipment and a challenging business environment

Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation has announced it will discontinue production and sales of several epoxy resin grades at its Tokai Plant Kawajiri site in Yokkaichi, Mie Prefecture, with operations scheduled to wind down around the end of September 2027.

The decision affects multiple product lines, including: Bisphenol A liquid epoxy resin, Bisphenol F liquid epoxy resin and Liquid and solid epoxy resins and various curing agents.

For some products, we expect to outsource production in order to continue sales.

The company has set September 30, 2027 (planned) as the end date for production.

Epoxy resins from MCC are widely used in industries such as paints and adhesives, but the company said continuing production of the affected grades has become unviable due to aging equipment and a challenging business environment.

“MCC’s epoxy resins are used for a wide range of applications, such as paints and adhesives, but for the products in the grades as mentioned above, MCC has deemed it difficult to continue their production due to the aging of production equipment and a dire business environment.”

Despite the shutdown, Mitsubishi Chemical stressed it will continue to focus on strategic materials aligned with its long-term transformation agenda.

Under its Medium-Term Management Plan 2029 and “KAITEKI Vision 35,” the company is prioritizing advanced materials supporting data processing, telecommunications, and semiconductor supply chains.

Going forward, MCC says it will remain active in supplying specialized epoxy resins used in semiconductor encapsulants and other electronic materials, signaling a shift away from legacy chemical lines toward higher-value, tech-driven segments.

The announcement reflects a broader restructuring push as the company reshapes its portfolio in response to changing industrial demand and long-term competitiveness pressures.
