Moeve is accelerating its push into renewable gas, signing a strategic agreement with Pretium Renovables to develop biomethane projects across Spain. The partnership aims to create four to six new plants, each producing an estimated 60 GWh per year, as part of Moeve’s Positive Motion transformation strategy.
The facilities will be spread across the country, with Andalusia identified as the priority region. Each plant is expected to cut CO₂ emissions by roughly 14,600 tons annually—the equivalent of emissions from more than 11,400 households using conventional natural gas.
Adrien Souchet, Director of Biomethane at Moeve, said: “This agreement with Pretium Renovables strengthens our ecosystem of strategic partnerships and enables us to continue advancing the development of biomethane as part of our Positive Motion strategy.
"Working with specialized partners will allow us to accelerate the rollout of this renewable gas and will also facilitate the implementation of decarbonization projects in high potential regions, such as Andalusia, contributing to the economic and social development of rural areas."
Laureano Parrilla, director of Pretium Renovables, added: “The agreement with Moeve marks a major milestone for Pretium Renovables and solidifies our position as a leading company in the development of biomethane projects in Spain.
"Our mission is to develop integrated projects in the territories that provide the most value, contributing to decarbonization, the circular economy, and the economic and social development of rural areas. With this partnership, we are taking a decisive step toward accelerating the energy transition and positioning Andalusia as a leading region in renewable gases."
The move aligns with Moeve’s wider 2G biofuels roadmap, which includes partnerships with ID Energy Group, Kira Ventures, PreZero, and InproEner. By replacing conventional natural gas with biomethane, the company aims to cut emissions across its energy parks, chemical plants, and industrial partners, while supporting green hydrogen production and sustainable mobility initiatives.
Moeve plans to manage 4 TWh of biomethane by 2030, turning agricultural and livestock waste into renewable gas and promoting circular economy practices. The company’s decarbonization strategy targets a 55% reduction in CO₂ emissions (scopes 1 and 2) by 2030 compared to 2019.
