PPG has unveiled its latest packaging innovation: a white interior coating designed for aluminum draw-redraw (DRD) cans and easy-open ends used in wet pet food.
The company says PPG NUTRISHIELD MAX PPG7590 is the first polyvinyl chloride non-intent (PVC-NI), one-component coil coating available in the US.
The new formulation removes the need for mixing, changeovers or multiple coating systems—streamlining production for coil coaters and cutting downtime.
Delivered ready to use, it also reduces material waste and simplifies manufacturing while maintaining a bright white interior finish for both can bodies and ends. PPG says the coating is engineered to protect product integrity while meeting brand quality standards.
“We’re providing a major step forward in quality, simplicity and sustainability for pet food packaging,” said Florence Béliard, PPG global strategic market manager, food, Packaging Coatings.
“This latest coating innovation offers our customers a range of benefits including reduced costs through manufacturing efficiency, optimal performance with enhanced visual appearance and compliance in a fast-moving regulatory landscape.”
PPG highlights several key features of the new coating, including a formulation free from PVC, PFAS, Bisphenol A (BPA) and other bisphenols. The company also emphasizes its single-component design, which eliminates mixing and changeovers to improve efficiency and reduce waste.
The coating is built for aluminum coil rollcoat application and is designed to cure reliably across different production lines. It also performs across a variety of wet pet food products—such as chicken, turkey and fish—offering strong stain resistance.
PPG says it supports food waste reduction by helping maintain product integrity throughout shelf life.
Already approved by major pet food brands, coil coaters and can manufacturers, PPG NUTRISHIELD MAX PPG7590 becomes the newest addition to the company’s Nutrishield internal coating portfolio for food packaging.
