Solvay announced that Guangzhou IP Court has ruled in favor of Solvay in a patent case against Zhejiang Fluorine Chemical New Material Co. Ltd. (Fluorine) related to certain polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) materials specifically tailored for use as binders or other components in batteries.

 

On June 2nd, 2022 Solvay has been notified that Guangzhou IP Court had judged that Fluorine has infringed Solvay's Chinese patent No. 200880019571.2  by manufacturing and selling Zheflon FL2100 PVDF material, using the patented process, and using the material as binders in China, and has ordered Fluorine to cease and desist from infringing acts, and to pay damages to Solvay. 

 

PVDF materials comprising this Solvay invention are current state-of-the-art technology for use as binders or separator/separators’ components in high end lithium batteries, and are indeed protected by Solvay’s patents.
