Chemspec Europe returns to Cologne on 6–7 May 2026, positioning itself once again as the central global meeting point for the speciality chemicals industry at Koelnmesse.

The two-day event is expected to serve as a high-intensity showcase for innovation, investment, and industrial transformation across the chemical value chain.

This year’s exhibition floor will be dominated by product debuts, technology launches, and process breakthroughs spanning catalysis, bioprocessing, continuous flow chemistry, sustainable ingredients, and advanced materials—offering a clear snapshot of where the sector is heading next.

The scale is significant: 455 exhibitors will take part, including 126 first-time exhibitors, reinforcing both the event’s momentum and the steady influx of new players entering the market. Fine and speciality chemical manufacturers make up the largest share of exhibitors, alongside strong representation from CDMOs, and service specialists.

Pharmaceutical applications lead sector participation, followed closely by agriculture, paints and coatings, personal care and cosmetics, and electronics and batteries—each with more than 100 exhibitors.

Sustainability is increasingly visible on the show floor, with 61 companies highlighting biobased solutions and 25 focusing on biodegradable products.

The breadth of the event extends further, with exhibitors serving industries from water treatment and textiles to packaging, recycling, and ceramics—underscoring the wide industrial dependence on speciality chemistry.

Innovation is taking centre stage as companies use Chemspec Europe to unveil new technologies and expand portfolios.

Cabro will introduce a new platinum-vanadium catalyst. Enzymaster is launching isocitric acid and fruit-like acid profiles aimed at next-generation formulations, reflecting growing momentum behind biocatalytic approaches in speciality chemistry.

THIELMANN will present its Tight-Head Drum for Chemical Substances with Tri-Sure Connections, designed for safer chemical handling and certified industrial compliance.

Midas Chemicals is broadening its footprint beyond pharmaceuticals into wider chemical markets, adding triflic acid to its portfolio with triflic anhydride to follow.

Ubichem will showcase ubispoke, a custom synthesis model focused on optimising cost, purity, scalability, and environmental impact across a molecule’s lifecycle.

Process technology pushes forward

Process innovation will be another focal point. Fluitec will unveil its Dynamic Cascade Reactor (DCR), designed to enable stable continuous operation where traditional static mixers fall short, improving control over precipitation in bulk phase reactions.

Axplora arrives following a $60 million investment to strengthen HPAPI capabilities at its Farmabios site in Italy, including a new R&D and laboratory hub aimed at accelerating development and scale-up of highly potent active pharmaceutical ingredients.

Sustainability moves from concept to practice

Sustainability continues to shape industry direction. SEQENS will present a speciality ingredients portfolio structured around five sustainability pillars, spanning personal care, lubricants, coatings, and solvents.

Meanwhile, Alsico, working with Stuff4Life and Coats, will showcase a circular breakthrough in high-visibility workwear—recovering and reusing retro-reflective glass beads from end-of-life garments, tackling one of the sector’s most persistent recycling challenges head-on.
