Seprify moves cellulose platform from pilot to industrial supply with €13.4M Series A

The new capital will fuel commercial production to hundreds of tonnes per year

Seprify, the Swiss bio-materials innovator, is stepping up its game.

The company has announced that its high-performance cellulose platform has moved from pilot validation to procurement-ready industrial supply, enabling manufacturers to shift from trials to repeatable sourcing and long-term commercial contracts. The move targets growing demand for bio-based alternatives to high-emission materials like titanium dioxide.

Backed by Inter IKEA Group, Seprify’s platform has been validated at TRL 7–9 through hands-on collaboration with industry partners and is now entering supplier qualification, early commercial contracts, and procurement discussions across cosmetics, personal care, food, pet food, and coatings. The company is actively engaged with over 100 customer organizations, from initial evaluations to early commercial supply.

Supporting this scale-up, Seprify has raised €13.4 million (CHF 12.25 million) in Series A funding from strategic and financial investors experienced in industrial-scale growth. The round includes Inter IKEA Group, Una Terra Early Growth Fund, Zürcher Kantonalbank (ZKB), Cambridge Enterprise Ventures, Kickfund, and other circular-economy-aligned investors.

The new capital will fuel commercial production to hundreds of tonnes per year via established manufacturing partners, accelerate rollout across priority markets, and advance engineering for future industrial-scale capacity. For customers, this translates into reliable, repeatable supply and formal procurement readiness.

“This funding enables us to focus on execution and scale,” said Lukas Schertel, Co-founder & CEO of Seprify.

“Our immediate priority is delivering consistent quality and reliable supply, meeting the operational standards large industrial customers require. In the near term, that means supporting cosmetics and personal care, including suncare, as well as food and pet food. We are also scaling for higher-volume applications such as coatings, inks and printed electronics, reflecting the broader potential of our cellulose platform.”

Robert Carleke, Innovation Ventures Manager at Inter IKEA Group, added: “At IKEA, we look for solutions that can realistically replace high-impact incumbent materials while fitting into existing manufacturing and recycling systems.

"Seprify’s cellulose platform has reached a level of maturity that makes this a credible path to explore, not only for specific applications such as coatings and surface finishes, but as a scalable materials platform with the consistency and operational readiness required for industrial use. We’re looking forward to this exploratory project.”

Seprify’s platform combines deep process expertise, application know-how, and robust intellectual property across process, product, and end-use applications. Flagship products include SilvaLuma, a cellulose-based SPF booster for cosmetics, and SilvaAlba, a food-grade whitening solution designed as a scalable alternative to titanium dioxide.
