Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) has commissioned gas evacuation facilities at Khoraghat GGS-1 in Assam’s Golaghat district, paving the way for surplus gas from the Upper Assam Shelf to enter the North East Gas Grid (NEGG).
The new facility, developed to connect ONGC’s production with the NEGG operated by Indradhanush Gas Grid Limited (IGGL), will enable the utilisation of nearly 1 lakh Standard Cubic Metres (SCM) of gas per day from ONGC’s Jorhat asset.
The development comes alongside the commissioning of the Dergaon–Dimapur Pipeline, which has connected Nagaland with both the North East Gas Grid and the National Gas Grid.
ONGC is also moving to bring more producing fields into the network. Hook-up facilities are being developed at Jantapathar and Kasomarigaon, which will connect additional fields of the Jorhat Asset to the NEGG.
The expanded network is expected to boost regional gas availability, curb flaring and strengthen the foundation for a gas-based economy across the North-East.
Greater access to natural gas could benefit a wide range of sectors, including households, industry, transport and power, while supporting infrastructure and economic growth in Assam and neighbouring states.
The projects collectively strengthen gas connectivity across the region and support the broader push to position the North-East as a key growth engine for India and deepen its integration into the country’s gas economy.
