By supplying skilled engineers and chemists to the surrounding industrial sector, the university plays a vital role in supporting their growth and development.

Recognizing the alarming rise in industrial accidents, the university took a significant step towards creating a safer working environment. In collaboration with UPL Limited and the Shroff Family, they established the Centre of Excellence in Process Safety, with GEXCON, Norway as their esteemed knowledge partner since July 2020. As a driving force for innovation and unwavering commitment, this initiative aims to redefine industry standards, placing safety at the forefront. The main goal of the Centre of Excellence is to enhance the safety of industrial workspaces, ensuring the protection of human lives, the environment, and valuable assets.

Its mission is to foster a culture of compassion and knowledge sharing, with the belief that zero accidents in industries can be more than just a vision, but an attainable objective when caring attitudes align with the dissemination of relevant knowledge. Over the past two years, the Centre of Excellence in Process Safety has successfully completed more than fifteen national and international projects, focusing on Process Safety and Risk Management, with an estimated cost of one crore rupees.

In a collaborative effort with the DISH (Director Industrial Safety and Health), the centre introduced India’s first Accident Reporting System in December 2020. This groundbreaking system was entirely designed by the experts at the Centre of Excellence. Setting new benchmarks in safety, UPL University’s Centre of Excellence is among the pioneers in India to offer 3D CFD consequence analysis and quantitative risk assessment in the field of safety. The centre takes immense pride in providing a comprehensive safety solution model, incorporating cutting-edge tools like Virtual Reality (VR) into their training programs.

To further enhance the expertise of professionals working in various industries, the Centre introduced the Post Graduate Diploma in Process Safety program. The program received an overwhelming response from the industry, with the first two groups collectively attracting 70 participants. The highly anticipated third batch is scheduled to commence in March 2024.
