UBE Corporation has invested in Immaterial, joining the top-up of the company's A2 funding round.

The UK-based startup, spun out of the University of Cambridge, is pioneering CO₂ capture technologies using densified monolithic Metal-Organic Frameworks (m-MOFs).

Immaterial develops, manufactures, and engineers gas separation and storage solutions based on m-MOFs, a breakthrough technology that produces MOFs in monolithic form—a feat unmatched globally.

This innovation, combined with advanced engineering, boosts the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of industrial carbon capture. It aims to deliver the lowest capital and operational expenditures in the sector, helping hard-to-abate industries reduce emissions despite stretched balance sheets.

UBE emphasized its commitment to technology-driven growth: "establishing technologies that serve as sources of competitive advantage through open innovation" and creating new specialty businesses.

The high-efficiency CO₂ separation and capture technology that Immaterial is advancing is expected to meet rising global decarbonization demand. UBE said that by supporting Immaterial's business and technology development, it seeks to foster growth and expand opportunities for both companies.

The UBE Group continues to tackle global environmental challenges by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting eco-friendly products and technologies.

"By delivering more environmentally beneficial products, technologies, and solutions to customers, we will contribute to achieving carbon neutrality across society and realize the UBE Group's vision for 2030: 'A corporate group centered on specialty chemicals that contributes to the global environment, human health, and a prosperous future society.'"
