BASF raises prices for neopentylglycol and 1,6-hexanediol in Europe

The price increase is driven by the global supply-demand situation and rising raw material costs

BASF is raising prices for two key polyalcohols in Europe, citing tighter global supply-demand dynamics and higher raw material costs.

Effective immediately, or as existing contracts permit, the chemical giant will increase the price of neopentylglycol (NPG) by €250 per metric ton and 1,6-hexanediol (HDO) by €300 per metric ton.

BASF said the increases are needed to respond to market conditions while maintaining product and service standards.

“The price increase is driven by the global supply-demand situation and rising raw material costs. It is also necessary to support BASF’s ongoing commitment to providing the highest levels of product and service quality while supporting the continued growth of our customers.”

NPG is widely used as an intermediate in polyester resins for coatings, unsaturated polyester resins, lubricants and plasticizers.

HDO is used across a broad range of applications, including industrial coatings, polyurethanes, adhesives and cosmetics. It is also used as a reactive thinner in epoxy systems, including formulations used in automotive lightweight components.

The move comes as chemical producers and downstream manufacturers continue to contend with volatile raw material costs and shifting global supply-demand conditions.
