Air Products to build major Florida gas plant to power space launch & industrial demand by 2028

The facility is slated to come online in the second half of 2028 and will produce liquid oxygen, nitrogen and argon

Air Products is expanding its US industrial gas footprint with plans to build, own and operate a new air separation unit (ASU) in Cocoa, Florida, reinforcing its push into high-demand industrial and space-sector markets.

The facility is slated to come online in the second half of 2028 and will produce liquid oxygen, nitrogen and argon.

“The facility’s ideal location will provide a clear opportunity to further enhance our support for space launch providers in Florida,” said Francesco Maione, Air Products’ President, Americas, Helium and Rare Gases.

Beyond the space industry, the new plant will serve a broad regional merchant market, supplying liquid oxygen, liquid nitrogen and liquid argon to customers in metals processing, fabrication, medical and chemical sectors.

The investment builds on Air Products’ long-standing presence in the state. The company has operated an ASU in Orlando for more than 30 years, supplying medical and industrial gases and supporting the local economy. The new Cocoa facility will extend that network across Florida, adding to Air Products’ roughly 70 ASUs operating nationwide.

Air Products, which has been in operation for over 85 years, reported fiscal 2025 sales of $12 billion and operates in about 50 countries. The company is also a major global hydrogen producer, developing large-scale clean energy projects aimed at decarbonizing heavy industry and transportation, alongside its broader industrial gas and equipment businesses.
