Oil India strikes fresh gas in Rajasthan’s Dandewala field

The well has recorded an average inflow of about 25,000 standard cubic metres per day

Oil India has announced a modest but significant natural gas discovery in its nominated Dandewala Field in Rajasthan, unlocking new shallow formation play.

The well has recorded an average inflow of about 25,000 standard cubic metres per day (SCMD) of natural gas from a depth of over ~950 metres, pointing to encouraging deliverability and strong underlying potential.

In what marks a key milestone, this is the first confirmed establishment of gas presence in the shallower Sanu Formation within the Dandewala field. The company says this opens up a new play and validates its strategy of revisiting subsurface prospects through focused technical work and a “missed opportunities” approach.

Early assessments based on structural control, petrophysical interpretation, and subsurface analysis indicate a gas-in-place estimate of around 75 million standard cubic metres (MMSCM).

Officials say the discovery significantly enhances the overall prospectivity of the Dandewala field and strengthens the outlook for future appraisal and development activity aimed at scaling up resources and production.
