GPCB asks Aether Industries to stop production; slaps Rs 50 lakh fine

Aether Industries Limited has informed that the Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) has ordered through the correspondence dated November 30, 2023, not to carry out production activity at the affected site until further instructions and also asked the company to pay Rs. 50 lakhs as interim damage compensation.

Aether's team is actively engaged in working with the GPCB to thoroughly understand the reasons behind the direction and to seek a resolution in the most efficient and transparent manner possible. The company firmly believes that the closure direction is subject to reconsideration, and the company has expressed its stance on the matter to the relevant authorities. Aether's commitment to environmental responsibility remains unwavering.

According to media report, the Surat police said that they found at least seven charred bodies from the premises of the chemical plant a day after a major fire engulfed injuring 24 workers.
