Six killed in a blast at Om Organics plant in Gujarat
The incident took place at Om Organics chemical plant when a reactor in the distillation unit exploded and a fire that followed soon spread, killing six workers

At least six workers were killed after a blast triggered a fire in a chemical factory in Dahej, Bharuch district, early on Monday.
The incident took place at Om Organics chemical plant where eight employees were present when a reactor in the distillation unit exploded and a fire that followed soon spread, killing six workers. Fire officials from Bharuch Nagar Palika, Ankleshwar GIDC, Jhagadia GIDC, and Dahej rushed to the spot.
“The blast in the reactor caus-ed a fire in the factory. There were eight labourers working in the factory of which six who were near the reactors died in the incident. Two others who escaped unhar-med were working at nearby boilers,” said Bharuch District Super-intendent of Police Dr Leena Paatil.
Officials from the Forensic Sciences Laboratory (FSL) and the Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) reached the spot and are working to find out the cause of the blast, Paatil added.
Dahej police has registered an accidental death case into the incident and the bodies were sent to Bharuch Civil hospital for postmortem.
The company manufacturers intermediates and chemicals at the factory located in Dahej GIDC Phase 3.
PM Narendra Modi announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh each from PMNRF to be given to the next of kin of the deceased. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000.
