As India battles the second wave of COVID-19, one of the primary obstacles for treating patients with respiratory diseases is the lack of oxygen. As part of its Covid relief efforts, Tata Chemicals through its CSR arm, TCSRD (Tata Chemicals Society for Rural Development), has procured and donated five oxygen concentrators (10 Litre per Minute capacity) to the Cuddalore district administration. The oxygen concentrators were handed over by Tata Chemicals local HR team to the district collector of Cuddalore, in the presence of  minister of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare for Tamil Nadu, M.R.K Panneerselvam.

K. Balasubramaniam, the District Collector of Cuddalore had recently convened a meeting of the State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu (SIPCOT) and requested businesses to help the Cuddalore Government Hospital in the treatment of COVID-19 patients.

As a part of its commitment to serving the society in which it operates, Tata Chemicals decided to do its bit by offering Oxygen concentrators that can be used in homes and hospitals to treat patients with breathing difficulty and provide oxygen at saturation levels as low as 85 in mild to moderately serious cases of Covid-19. Oxygen concentrators draw oxygen from the surrounding air; filter it via a sieve, releasing the nitrogen while supplying the oxygen to the patient.

Commenting on this initiative, Alka Talwar, Head - CSR & Sustainability, Tata Chemicals, Tata Chemicals said, "Tata Chemicals has launched multiple efforts during the pandemic to help the people and communities. We believe this pandemic can be defeated with collaborative efforts and providing the Oxygen concentrators to the Cuddalore district administration is a step towards this direction. When our local on-ground team informed us about the urgent requirement to treat Covid-19 patients in Cuddalore our teams and volunteers stepped up immediately to provide assistance to the local authorities. Tata Chemicals is continually seeking ways to support and protect the communities at large in which it operates and will also be donating 5 oxygen concentrators to the authorities in Mambattu village, located in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh."
