A task force on plastic waste management has been
constituted with the secretary of chemicals and petrochemicals as its chairman.
The Standing Committee on Chemicals and Fertilisers (2009-10) on Demand for
Grants (2010-11) of the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers (Department of
Chemicals and Petrochemicals) in its eighth report had inter alia recommended
constitution of a task force at the apex level in the DCPC comprising
representative of the ministries of Environment and Forest and Urban Development
and other agencies so as to provide a mechanism for consultation on a regular
basis regarding plastic waste management in the prevalent overall scenario.
Accordingly, a task force on plastic waste management has been constituted with
the following composition:
1. Secretary, Chemicals and Petrochemicals: Chairman
2. Joint Secretary (Petrochemicals), DCPC: Member Secy
3. Joint Secretary, Ministry of Environment and Forest: Member
4. Joint Secretary, Ministry of Urban Development: Member
5. Director General, Central Institute of Plastics Engineering and Technology (CIPET):
Member
6. Representative from state/municipal corporation concerned: Member
7. President, All India Plastics Manufacturers Association: Member
8. President, Organization of Plastic Processors of India: Member
9. President, Chemicals and Petrochemicals Manufacturers Association: Member
10. President, Indian Centre for Plastics in Environment: Member
11. Representative from Chintan (NGO), Delhi: Member
12. Representative from Toxilink (NGO), Delhi: Member
The terms of reference of the task force will be to discuss the issues relating
to plastic waste management in the country regularly and to recommend suitable
policy framework, interventions with specific reference to setting up of plastic
waste management centres in major cities in the country.
