GTZ (India) proposes organic synthetic unit in Bengal

GTZ (India) Pvt Ltd has approached the Ministry of Environment and Forests in connection with its proposed plan to set up a 15,000 MT/KL capacity organic synthetic plant at Khariberia in West Bengal\'s South 24 Parganas district.

GTZ (India) Pvt Ltd has approached the Ministry of Environment and Forests in
connection with its proposed plan to set up a 15,000 MT/KL capacity organic
synthetic plant at Khariberia in West Bengal\'s South 24 Parganas district.

The products proposed are: Sodium Allyl Sulphonate, Benzylidene Acetone, Pyridine Hydroxy Sulpho Betain, Benzyl Nicotinate, Imidazole Epichlorohydrin, Aqueous solutions of Polyamines and Phosphate ester sodium salts, Phenol Sulphonic Acid, Dioctyl Sebacate, Polyquaternium, Ethoxylated Naphtol Sulphonic Acid, Amphoteric Surfactant, Pyridinium propyl Sulfobetain, Simethicone, Polymer products, Polyvinyl Acetate based Emulsion, Styrine Acrylate Emulsion, Acrylamide Formalin Emulsion and Urethane Acrylic hybrid Emulsion.

The company said it will invest Rs 9.5 crore in the project. The land area
measuring 2 acres was acquired during 2005-07 against proper compensation to all
the land owners.

According to GTZ, it will employ 35 people.

There are also no historical places, defence installations, archaeological sites,
wildlife sanctuaries or national parks and ecologically-sensitive areas within a
10 km radius from the project site.

The increasing industrial activity will also boost up the commercial and economic
status of the locality, the company said in its presentation.

In order to mitigate the air pollutants and to attenuate the noise generated by
the plant and also improving the ecology and aesthetics of the area, the unit will
develop the green belt, the company said, adding there will not be any major
potential for negative impact on the environment due to the proposed project and
that all environmental infrastructures are available in the region.

On the contrary, there will be positive impact on the socio-economic environment
since the project will generate some permanent and secondary employment and it
will increase direct and indirect employment opportunities, the company said.

The company further said it will adopt all safety and hazard identification
measures besides a strong disaster management policy.
