India Pesticides seeks clearance for new unit in Uttar

India Pesticides Limited has requested clearance from the Environment and Forests Ministry’s for its proposed pesticide manufacturing unit at Sandila in Uttar Pradesh’s Hardoi district.

India Pesticides Limited has requested clearance from the Environment and Forests
Ministry’s for its proposed pesticide manufacturing unit at Sandila in Uttar
Pradesh’s Hardoi district.

In its presentation, the company said the proposed unit is a greenfield project to
manufacture 3650 MTPA agro chemicals like insecticides (18), fungicides (17) and
herbicides (11) and intermediates (2).

The unit is located in the notified industrial area and will occupy an area of
about 26709 sq m of which 8820 sq m is for greenbelt development. The total
investment for the project is Rs 14 crore of which Rs 2 crore is for environmental
protection system.

The company said quantitative risk assessment report has been separately prepared.
QRA is a means of making a systematic analysis of the risks from hazardous
activities, and forming a rational evaluation of their significance, in order to
provide input to a decision-making process.

The company also gave details of hazard parameters of the project and the safety
measures it will take to ensure prevention of hazards and occupational health.

\"The storage area will be cool, dry, well ventilated, clean and protected from
external heat source.\"

The unit is located in the industrial area which has all environmental
infrastructures like common incinerator and common effluent treatment plant.

Because of the project, there will not be any major potential for negative impact
on the environment, the company said.

On the contrary, there will be positive impact on the socio-economic environment
since the proposed project will generate some permanent and secondary employment
and it will increase direct and indirect employment opportunities, it said.

The increasing industrial activity will also boost up the commercial and economic
status of the locality, it said.

The company will concentrate on maintaining the green belt area, water pollution
control, environmental monitoring and occupational health among other things.

The company informed the ministry that there are no historical places,
archaeological sites, wildlife sanctuaries or national parks within a 10 km radius
from the project site.
