Narmada Ispat proposes ferro alloy plant in Chhattisgarh

Chhattisgarh\'s Durg district.

Narmada Ispat Ltd is an unit of Hira Group of Industries, one of the largest company groups in Chhattisgarh with predominant interest in power generation, sponge iron, steel making, steel olled products, ferro alloys, coal washeries and coal and iron mining and cement manufacture.

The projected cost of the proposed unit is Rs 47.1 crore and the total plot area is 3.012 hectares of which greenbelt will be developed on an area of 1.004
hectare. Approximately 2000 trees per hectare will be planted in consultation with forest officials.

The manpower requirement of the project is 150 people.The ferro alloys proposed are pig iron, ferro manganese, silico manganese, ferro silicon.

The company said it will concentrate on maintaining the greenbelt area, water pollution control,environmental monitoring and occupational health among other things.

It informed the ministry that there are no historical places, archaeological sites, wildlife sanctuaries or national parks, defence installations, mountains and
hills within a 15 km radius from the project site.

The company also gave details of hazard parameters of the project and the safety measures it will take to ensure prevention of hazards and occupational health.
Because of the project, there will not be any major potential for negative impact on the environment, the company said.

On the contrary, there will be positive impact on the socio-economic environment since the proposed project will generate some permanent and secondary employment
and it will increase direct and indirect employment opportunities, it said.

The ferro alloy plant will operate on dry basis and hence there will be no waste water generation or discharge from the process. The waste water from the cooling towers will be treated and reused within the plant while the sanitary waste water will be treated in septic tanks and soak pits.
