NITRO‑CHEM and PROZAP launch strategic drive for Poland’s next‑gen explosives plant

The deal builds on a letter of intent signed earlier this year between NITRO-CHEM and Grupa Azoty

Polish chemical and defense‑industry company NITRO-CHEM and engineering firm PROZAP have joined forces to build Poland’s next-gen high-energy explosives plant.

NITRO-CHEM has signed a new agreement with PROZAP to develop design documentation for an advanced installation capable of producing high‑energy explosives including RDX and, alternatively, HMX.

The plans prepared by PROZAP -- part of Grupa Azoty — will underpin a large‑scale investment at NITRO-CHEM's facilities. The project is billed as strategically vital for the national defence sector and central to NITRO-CHEM’s ambition to reinforce its status as a global supplier of high‑quality high-energy explosives.

The deal builds on a letter of intent signed earlier this year between NITRO-CHEM and Grupa Azoty, which laid out a framework for jointly strengthening Poland’s capabilities in designing and constructing explosive‑material production systems.

The planned installation is expected to boost production volumes and increase technological flexibility, enabling parallel manufacturing of RDX, HMX and the intermediates required for both. Rising demand from defence clients has intensified the need for materials with the highest quality parameters — a gap the new facility is meant to fill.

“In line with our strategy, we will continue to develop the segment of chemical materials for defence both based on our own production capabilities and through partnership models, delivering solutions that require a high level of engineering expertise,” says Paweł Bielski, Vice President of Grupa Azoty.

“Our cooperation reflects the idea of local content — the participation of domestic entities in investment projects — and contributes to strengthening independence and supply-chain security in the defence sector.”

Calling the agreement a key milestone, Arkadiusz Miszuk, President of the Management Board of NITRO-CHEM, said, “Thanks to collaboration with PROZAP and the experience of Grupa Azoty, we will accelerate design work and build a solid foundation for the installation that will strengthen NITRO-CHEM’s position as a trusted supplier for the defence sector at home and abroad.”

Karol Przybyszewski, Member of the Management Board of NITRO-CHEM, underscores the importance of PROZAP’s role: “Cooperation with PROZAP — a company with extensive experience in designing installations for the chemical and defence industries — gives us full confidence that the documentation will be prepared with the highest care and in line with all safety requirements. This is a key step on the path to constructing an installation of strategic importance for the development of Poland’s defence potential.”

Once the design phase wraps up, construction preparations will begin. The project is expected to support growing international demand for high‑energy materials, strengthen Poland’s defence capabilities and further cement NITRO-CHEM’s position among the world’s leading explosives manufacturers.
