Of the 7,500 metric tons of TDI, which have a higher dichlorobenzene value, about two-thirds were not yet further processed. Intensive remedial dialog with customers, associations and consumers are on
Based on initial tests conducted by BASF experts between August 25 and September 29 on foams made from TDI produced in Ludwigshafen, Germany, and subsequent calculations, BASF says that health hazards are not anticipated. Furthermore, BASF has clarified that it has not sent directly the affected TDI to Asia.
“Analysis of foams show low DCB levels in TDI produced in Ludwigshafen, Germany. The quality fluctuation in Ludwigshafen does not affect any production plants in Asia, and no related issues have been detected,” it says in a statement issued today.
According to BASF, of the 7,500 metric tons of TDI, which have a higher dichlorobenzene value, about two-thirds were not yet further processed. The company is also engaging with the responsible authorities and the relevant associations with the details of the assessment. The withdrawal of the product has started in close cooperation with the customers assisted by a team of around 75 specialists to clarify customers’ questions.
BASF is in close contact with the relevant associations for mattresses and foam producers in order to find a solution as quickly as possible.
