On World Bio Fuel Day, a 9 TPD Compressed Bio Gas (CBG) plant of Indian Potash Limited at Rohanakalan, Muzzafarnagar was dedicated to the nation by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Along with this, three retail outlets of Indian Oil at Muzaffarnagar - Chadravati Filling Station, Kissan Filling Station, and Agarwal Service Station were also dedicated to the nation. These retail outlets will be marketing CBG produced from this plant.

Speaking about the benefits of Biofuel, the Prime Minister said Biofuel is not just a clean fuel, rather it is also a medium to accelerate the engine of self-reliance in fuel, the engine of development of the country, and the engine of development of the village.

He added Biofuel is such an energy that we can get from household and farm waste, from plants, and from spoiled grains.

The Prime Minister said, "We are very close to our goal of 10 percent blending in the last 6-7 years and we are moving towards 20 percent blending in the next 4-5 years."

In Uttar Pradesh, during last year Rs. 7,000 crore worth of Ethanol was purchased. Many ethanol and biofuel related units were established in the state and the process for establishing CBG Plants for making compressed biogas from sugarcane waste is going on in 70 districts of the state. Plants are coming up in Budaun and Gorakhpur for making biofuel from Parali.

In another development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched Ujjwala 2.0 (Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana - PMUY) by handing over LPG connections at Mahoba Uttar Pradesh today via video conferencing. The objective of the scheme is to issue deposit-free LPG connections to one crore additional families who could not be covered under the earlier phase of PMUY.

The launch event was also graced by Yogi Adiyanath, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh; Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of Housing & Urban Affairs and Petroleum & Natural Gas; and Rameswar Teli, Minister of State for Petroleum & Natural Gas and Labour & Employment were also present through the virtual mode.

With this, the government intends to fulfil its objective of providing clean Liquefied Petroleum Gas to 100% of the poor households who were otherwise dependent on traditional cooking fuels like firewood, coal or cow-dung cakes.

Alongside the Ujjwala 2.0 launch, a special exhibition on biofuels was also organized to celebrate World Bio Fuel Day, which is observed on 10th August every year to create awareness about the importance of non-fossil fuels as an alternative to conventional fossil fuels and to highlight the various efforts made by the government in the biofuels sector.
