BASF launches the design for manufacturing app “molded” for injection molded parts
With “molded”, BASF launches its first web-based simulation app for injection molded parts. The design for manufacturing app allows to detect errors at early stages of the part development, iterate fast and thereby shorten time to market for BASF customers. molded is part of the Ultrasim® Web Services, a new series of easily accessible web-based services offering access to BASF’s full simulation expertise for engineering plastics and foams.
molded is the first tool of the new Ultrasim Web Services. Thanks to the easy-to-use app, a wide range of users can benefit from BASF’s extensive simulation expertise for injection molded parts. Within seconds, the fully graphical web tool gives customers initial feedback into the mold-filling behavior and allows to understand the interplay between design, material choice and producibility. By helping to detect problems early in the product development phase, the app speeds up the design process and can save costs and time.
The user will also have access to the entire BASF material know-how and expert simulation support, providing material suggestions to mitigate design constraints. “So don’t worry if your design won’t work with the planned material: we’re here to help you find the right fit for your application! This is what BASF’s Go!Create approach is about – enabling effective collaboration between BASF and customers to find new solutions,” Christian Eigl, Digital Product Manager of molded, emphasizes. The app is currently piloting in all member states of the European Union, the United Kingdom and many Asian countries.
Ultrasim Web Services is the technological platform for molded and several new services. Particularly high security standards have been implemented for providing web-based access to BASF’s full simulation expertise for engineering plastics and foams. All apps focus on specific tasks in the BASF customers’ development process to create a great user experience. “To use our simulation services, you don’t need to be an engineer or simulation expert. You simply upload your design data and our easy-to-use apps will guide you to simulation results powered by Ultrasim. In case you get stuck, our support team is only one click away to find a solution with you,” Dr. Matthias Wohlmuth, Team Leader Ultrasim Web Services, explains.
