Rallis India has been conferred with ICC - K. V. Mariwala Award for “Effective Chemical Industry-Academia Partnership” at the 57th Indian Chemical Council Awards presentation function for 2021 by Arun Baroka, Secretary, Chemicals & Petrochemicals; Susanta Kumar Purohit, Joint Secretary, Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals; Ravi Goenka, President, ICC; and ICC Executive Committee members.

Rallis India in collaboration with the Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT, Mumbai) worked to identify gaps and establish process/technology focusing on improving batch cycle time, impurity profiling, and yield improvement which have direct implications on the enhancement of manufacturing efficiencies. The study was carried out under the leadership of two esteemed professors, Prof. Ashwin W. Patwardhan and Prof. Parag. R Ghogate, from ICT, Mumbai.

“At Rallis, we always strive for excellence. Getting this award bolsters our confidence to continue working towards making our processes more efficient and better. The partnership with ICT, Mumbai has proved to be effective in improving the manufacturing efficiency of agro-chemicals which has not only helped us to deliver our products to the end user (farmer) at a competitive price but has also played a vital role in the reduction of losses & raw material consumption, thereby helping us in our journey of sustainable business,” said Sanjiv Lal, Managing Director, Rallis India.

The product development team conducted various experiments to understand the reaction kinetics, material balance, and the root cause that triggers the impurity generation, and gradually implemented the findings which were reviewed and discussed fortnightly with the ICT professors and Rallis senior leadership team. This resulted in an improvement in reaction rate by 3%, a reduction in the batch cycle time, and minimized raw material consumption in our manufacturing process in FY20-21.

The ICC – K. V. Mariwala Award for “Effective Chemical Industry-Academia Partnership” is a new award category launched by the India Chemical Council (ICC). This award recognises Industry - Academia collaboration to resolve a problem in the chemical industry operations & process that has led to either an increase in production output or better regulatory compliance or a decrease in the cost of production or product cost.
