Tata Chemicals Society for Rural Development (TCSRD) has deployed HP Wow Bus in the Okhamandal area to commemorate National Engineer’s Day and has given hands-on training on engineering-related activities with model creation related to applied science.

HP Wow buses are 20-seater computer-equipped and IT-enabled vehicles that are driven to schools and colleges around the taluka to impart computer and science classes for students and young adults. On National Science Day, the HP Wow bus reached out to 100+ students in the region and gave hands-on training on engineering-related activities with model creation related to applied science.

Nearly 50-60 engineers from Tata Chemicals volunteered to help the young students understand the on-site expertise required to pursue a career in engineering. These volunteers in groups of 5-6 went around the Okhamandal area to arouse the curiosity of students in science.

Talking about this event, R. Nanda, Chief of HR and CSR, Tata Chemicals said, “This is a small effort to help inculcate scientific mindset and reasoning amongst young students. Our 50-60 engineers were selected to talk about science and engineering with high school students. This will help them be better equipped and prepared for their future. Such activities give youngsters a chance to interact with people from the industry and bolster their confidence.”

Several science modelling competitions were also organized to put the skills of students to test. These competitions were fully funded by Tata Chemicals. The winner of these competitions organized during the session will be taken for an exposure visit to the company’s facility for power generation using solar energy (solar power plant) and its skill development center. There they will get a chance to observe onsite work and interact with experts.

“Wow Bus has worked magic in Okhamandal. In high school when students are filled with doubts related to their career path, such initiatives help them find their field of interest. We are happy to see that the concept of HP Wow Bus is being lauded by locals as well,” added Nanda.

World on Wheels (WOW) Bus was designed and donated by HP and now Tata Chemicals Society for Rural Development (TCSRD) is using it for education purposes.

Established in 1980, the primary aim of Tata Chemicals Society for Rural Development is to initiate and support community development programmes in and around regions where Tata Chemicals Limited facilities are located. And while each region is different in terms of geographic spread, subcultures, and socio-economic requirements, TCSRD strives to protect, nurture and uplift the communities by adopting an integrated approach to development and designing region-specific need-based programmes.
