WABAG named preferred EPC partner for major Saudi sewage project

The Hadda ISTP will be developed under a 25-year Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) model

VA Tech Wabag has been named the preferred engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) partner for the Hadda Independent Sewage Treatment Plant (ISTP) project in Saudi Arabia, after a developer consortium secured preferred bidder status from the Saudi Water Partnership Company (SWPC).

The consortium—comprising Metito Utilities Limited, Etihad Water and Electricity Company PJSC, and SkyBridge Limited Company—was selected by SWPC to develop the project, with WABAG leading the EPC scope. The project strengthens WABAG’s footprint in the Middle East and marks another significant win in Saudi Arabia’s expanding water infrastructure sector.

The Hadda ISTP will be developed under a 25-year Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) model. Under the proposed EPC scope, WABAG will be responsible for the design, engineering, procurement and construction of a sewage treatment plant with an initial capacity of 100,000 cubic metres per day, expandable to 250,000 cubic metres per day.

The project also includes an advanced treated sewage effluent (TSE) reuse system, a large storage tank, and a 38-kilometre transmission pipeline with a throughput capacity of 350,000 cubic metres per day, positioning it as a critical asset in the Kingdom’s long-term water management strategy.

Project commencement will be announced following the execution of concession agreements and financial closure by the developer consortium.

Commenting on the announcement, Rohan Mittal, Head – Strategy and Business Growth – GCC, said: "Being associated with a project of such strategic importance is both an honour and a responsibility we take very seriously. This selection reinforces our strong presence in the Middle East and our growing partnerships in Saudi Arabia.

"We sincerely thank the Developer Consortium and SWPC for the confidence placed in us and look forward to collaborating closely to deliver this landmark infrastructure to the highest standards of performance and reliability.”
