Prof. Ganapati D. Yadav, eminent chemical engineer and former Vice-Chancellor of the Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT), Mumbai, has been selected for the prestigious Sir P. C. Ray Award by the Syndicate of the University of Calcutta.
The award was conferred at the University’s Convocation ceremony held on March 23, 2026, by the Chancellor of the University and the Governor of West Bengal, R. N. Ravi.
Named after the legendary scientist Acharya Prafulla Chandra Ray—founder President of the Indian Chemical Society and the Indian Chemical Council (formerly the Indian Chemical Manufacturers’ Association)—Sir P. C. Ray Award recognizes outstanding contributions to science and technology.
Prof. Yadav’s selection is a testament to his pioneering work in green chemistry, catalysis, and sustainable industrial processes.
Notably, Acharya Ray was also the founding editor of the Journal of the Indian Chemical Society. Prof. Yadav currently serves as President of the Indian Chemical Society and Editor-in-Chief of the journal. Under his leadership, the Society celebrated its centenary year and instituted 22 new awards. The journal, now published by Elsevier, has an impact factor of 3.4 and attracts high-quality research contributions from across the world.
