Valtris Specialty Chemicals has appointed industry veteran Mike McGaugh as its new Chief Executive Officer, marking a leadership transition at the SK Capital–backed specialty additives manufacturer.

McGaugh succeeds Simon Medley, who is retiring after more than three decades in the chemical industry. Medley will continue to advise the company during the transition.

“We are thrilled to welcome Mike, an industry veteran with a proven track record in the chemical and materials industries,” said Jack Norris, a Managing Director of SK Capital.

"Mike’s decades of demonstrated leadership experience and deep understanding of Valtris’ markets make him an outstanding choice to lead the company. We would also like to take this time to thank Simon Medley for his leadership and significant contributions to Valtris over the past three years. We wish Simon success in his future endeavors and congratulate him on an accomplished career, which includes more than three decades of leadership in the chemical industry.”

McGaugh joins Valtris after serving as CEO of Myers Industries, a publicly traded manufacturer of sustainable plastic and metal products. Before that, he was executive vice president and chief operating officer of BMC Stock Holdings, overseeing strategy, execution, and financial performance.

His career also includes nearly 25 years at The Dow Chemical Company, where he held a series of senior leadership roles spanning business management, innovation, strategic marketing, and global integration, including leadership responsibilities tied to the Dow–DuPont merger.

“I am excited about the opportunity to lead Valtris on its next chapter of growth,” McGaugh stated. “I look forward to working in partnership with SK Capital and my Valtris colleagues to continue to unlock the company’s full potential.”

McGaugh holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Texas State University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
