Brenntag has concluded a comprehensive two-year process to inventory, evaluate and submit Science Based Targets for emissions reductions in line with the SBTi criteria
Brenntag, the global market leader in chemicals and ingredients distribution, announced that the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has confirmed the company’s climate targets to reduce its emissions across all corporate activities (Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions) after a thorough review process. This includes the target to achieve Net Zero by 2050. These targets are in line with the Paris Agreement’s goal of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees. The target confirmation for Brenntag strongly underlines again its commitment and market leadership in sustainability.
Brenntag’s targets are:
* To reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 58.8% by 2034 from a 2023 base year.
* To reduce absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions by 35% within the same timeframe.
* To reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 90% by 2045 from a 2023 base year.
* To reduce absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions by 90% by 2050 from a 2023 base year.
The target boundary includes land-related emissions and removals from bioenergy feedstocks.
Andreas Kicherer, Vice President Sustainability for the Brenntag Group, commented: “We are committed to shape the sustainable transformation of our industry. Based on more and more reliable and transparent data and along a clear carbon management program, we are implementing our comprehensive package of climate measures to achieve our goals. We are proud that organizations like the SBT initiative have now confirmed our ambitious climate targets. As a global distributor of chemicals and ingredients, more than 85% of our Scope 3 emissions come from the products we trade. Nevertheless, we have set ourselves the goal of Net Zero Scope 3 by 2050.”
