Nouryon, a global specialty chemicals leader, is expanding its industry-leading sodium chlorate capacity in South America by 20 per cent to support Arauco’s new $4.6 billion pulp mill in Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil.
Under a long-term agreement, Nouryon will supply essential sodium chlorate and chlorine dioxide solutions for the mill and construct fully integrated manufacturing facilities in Mato Grosso do Sul. The company will own and operate the sodium chlorate plant and engineer, construct, and operate the chlorine dioxide facility, increasing Nouryon’s South America capacity by 20 per cent and global capacity by nearly 10 per cent. Pulp production is scheduled to begin in late 2027.
“We are proud to strengthen our long-standing partnership with Arauco and support growing demand for renewable pulp-based products,” said Ann Lindgärde, Senior Vice President, Renewable Fibers, Nouryon. “This project reinforces our market leadership in South America and showcases our technology expertise and reliable supply network.”
Since 2005, Nouryon has implemented a sustainable integrated manufacturing model in Brazil, improving production efficiency, safety, and environmental performance. This new investment marks the company’s seventh integrated site in the region.
“This project expands our sodium chlorate capacity, strengthens service to the South American pulp industry, and advances renewable fiber production,” said Antonio Carlos Francisco, Vice President, Renewable Fibers, South America, Nouryon.
