Eminent Research Stalwarts at the One Day Workshop on- Probing the Research Process from Idea to Impact organised by KJSIT
K J Somaiya Institute of Technology (KJSIT), Mumbai, an autonomous engineering institute of high repute, successfully concluded a one-day offline workshop on “Probing the Research Process: From Idea to Impact”, designed to empower research scholars and faculty with the skills, perspectives, and ethical grounding needed to produce impactful research.
The workshop drew participation from over 57 institutions across India, creating a vibrant forum for collaboration and knowledge exchange. Discussions explored the entire research journey—from formulating the right questions to achieving meaningful societal and academic outcomes—while also addressing modern methodologies, industry integration, and the critical importance of ethical publication practices.
The sessions were led by some of India’s most respected academicians and thought leaders. Dr. Raghunath Shevgaonkar, Former Provost of Somaiya Vidyavihar, opened the programme with an insightful talk on identifying research gaps, ensuring originality, and aligning goals with societal priorities. Emphasising the transformative role of artificial intelligence, he remarked, “As technology evolves, our approach to research must adapt. AI is reshaping problem-solving—this is where impactful change begins.”
This was followed by Padma Shri Prof. Deepak B. Phatak, Professor Emeritus at IIT Bombay, who spoke on preparing for the changing research landscape of the digital century, highlighting digital tools, interdisciplinary approaches, and open-access collaboration.
Prof. N. C. Shivaprakash from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, addressed the paradigm shift in research, calling for innovation, ethical practices, and cross-domain partnerships to tackle global challenges.
The final session was delivered by Dr. Nadir Nizar Ali Charniya from Vivekanand Education Society’s Institute of Technology, Mumbai, offering practical guidance on navigating platforms like WOS and Scopus while avoiding predatory journals.
Organised under the leadership of Dr. Vivek Sunnapwar, Principal of KJSIT, and Dr. Hariram Chavan, Professor and PhD Coordinator, the workshop underscored the institute’s commitment to fostering a strong, ethical, and industry-aligned research culture. Reflecting on its success, Dr. Sunnapwar said, “In this era of rapid technological transformation, innovation anchored in ethical values is more critical than ever. We must guide the next generation to balance originality with responsibility.” By bridging academic rigour with real-world relevance, the event reaffirmed KJSIT’s mission to cultivate research that advances knowledge while addressing pressing societal needs.
