Japanese chemical major DIC Corporation has announced that its methodology for calculating the product carbon footprint of DIC Group products has received third-party certification, a move that underscores the company’s commitment to transparency and sustainability.

The certification, covering both DIC and its wholly owned subsidiary Sun Chemical Corporation, confirms compliance with key international standards, including ISO 14067:2019 and the TfS PCF Guideline.

The independent assessment was conducted by the Ramboll Group, headquartered in Copenhagen, Denmark, renowned for its multidisciplinary expertise in environmental impact assessment. The certification “verifies that the product carbon footprint data provided by the DIC Group aligns with global criteria for reliability, transparency, and comparability,” the company said.

With increasing focus on carbon neutrality, companies face mounting pressure to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and report them accurately across the supply chain. Product carbon footprint, which measures product-specific greenhouse gas emissions, “is an important indicator in decision making regarding, for example, the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, product procurement and sustainability disclosure,” DIC noted. Variations in methodology and calculation scope can lead to inconsistencies, undermining data reliability.
