Japan's UBE-MARUZEN POLYETHYLENE (UMP), a 50-50 joint venture between the UBE Group and Maruzen Petrochemical, has officially launched its ISCC PLUS-certified ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA) products at its Chiba Plant.
The company first received ISCC PLUS certification in December 2023. Since then, UMP has been marketing EVA made from sustainable raw materials using the mass balance method. The company is now taking the next step by officially launching these certified products.
“ISCC PLUS is an international certification system that helps ensure and promote a sustainable supply chain, demonstrating a commitment to environmental responsibility and a more sustainable future,” UMP said.
The newly launched products meet the latest ISCC PLUS requirements and are produced using biomass and circular materials through the mass balance method, helping to reduce environmental impact.
“By expanding its portfolio of sustainable products, UMP aims to offer customers more environmentally conscious choices as part of its contribution to addressing global environmental challenges,” the company added.
Under the ISCC PLUS system, when biomass or circular raw materials are mixed with conventional ones, a portion of the resulting product can be considered “made from 100% biomass or circular raw materials,” depending on the proportion of sustainable inputs.
