Sarthi Chem Pvt Ltd has proposed to expand its Methyl Bromide manufacturing unit at Kuvadava GIDC Estate in Gujarat\'s Rajkot district.

In its presentation before the expert committee of the Ministry of Environment and Forests, the company said the unit is currently producing 20 MT of Methyl Bromide per month and it wants to double the production capacity.

The company said the proposed expansion will be carried out in the existing premises only and hence no additional land will be acquired for the proposed expansion.

Also, the industrial unit is located in GIDC Estate and hence there is no requirement to conduct public hearing for the proposed expansion project.

Methyl Bromide is mainly used for quarantine and fumigation of wooden pallets and shipment during export.

The total capital investment for the expansion project is Rs 32.25 lakh, taking the total cost of the project to Rs 122.46 lakh. The total ploy area is 2211 sq m of which 300 sq m will be for greenbelt development.

The company said the unit is located in the industrial estate with a number of manufacturing units of all scales. There are no reserved forests, sanctuaries or archaeological sites in the vicinity of the unit. The project also involves no rehabilitation or resettlement of local people.

Sarthi Chem Pvt Ltd said it has complied with the enviro-legal requirement and possesses all valid consents, authorisation, licences and insurance policies required for its operation and the necessary infrastructure to meet the requirement with respect to environmental pollution and safety.

The company said there are very negligible chances of fugitive emission due to manufacturing activities and raw material handing and transportation.

In order to mitigate the air pollutants and to attenuate the noise generated by the plant and also improving the ecology and aesthetics of the area, the unit has already developed greenbelt area in 100 sq m which will be increased to 300 sq m after the proposed expansion and along the periphery of the abetment of gaseous and noise pollution.
