JAPEX start commercial operation of Chofu Biomass Power Plant in Shimonoseki city

The plant is a biomass-only power plant with an output capacity of 74,950 kW that uses 100% wood pellets as its power generation fuel

Chofu Bio-Power LLC (CBP) and its five sponsors, which are Japan Petroleum Exploration Co., (JAPEX), Tokyo Energy & Systems, MOT Research Institute, Chofu Seisakusho Co., and Kawasaki Kinkai Kisen Kaisha (Sponsors for the five companies together), announces that Chofu Biomass Power Plant promoted by CBP as the main business entity has started the commercial operation on December 30, 2024.

The plant is a biomass-only power plant with an output capacity of 74,950 kW that uses 100% wood pellets as its power generation fuel. The amount of power generation is approximately 520 GWh per year and all of them are sold to Chugoku Electric Power Transmission & Distribution Co., based on the Feed-in tariffs scheme (FIT) for renewable energy.

CBP has conducted the management of the Power Plant, while the Sponsors have been entrusted with the works related to the power plant from CBP, such as operation and maintenance, fuel procurement, and transportation, depending on each company's capabilities. The Sponsors have also cooperated and supported CBP for building and keeping relationships with local government and neighborhoods.
