Haryana has moved to calm fears over fertilizer shortages ahead of the crucial Kharif 2026 season, with KRIBHCO asserting the state has sufficient stocks despite mounting global supply chain pressures amid West Asia crisis.

Speaking at a media workshop, KRIBHCO Haryana State Marketing Manager Desh Raj Singh Vishnoi said the state’s total fertilizer requirement for the Kharif season is estimated at 16.20 lakh metric tonnes.

The demand is dominated by urea, with nearly 11 lakh metric tonnes required for the upcoming paddy sowing season.

Haryana is also expected to need 2.80 lakh metric tonnes of DAP, 0.95 lakh metric tonnes of SSP, 0.70 lakh metric tonnes of MOP, 0.60 lakh metric tonnes of complex fertilizers, and 0.15 lakh metric tonnes of city compost.

“Despite global challenges and disruptions in supply chains, all stakeholders are working in coordination to ensure timely availability of fertilizers to farmers across Haryana during the crucial Kharif season,” Vishnoi said.

He stressed that uninterrupted fertilizer supply and balanced nutrient management remain vital for sustaining Haryana’s agricultural productivity, especially with nutrient-intensive crops like paddy driving heavy demand for nitrogen-based fertilizers such as urea.

Vishnoi said the Haryana government, cooperative institutions, and fertilizer companies are working in tandem to ensure timely fertilizer availability, encourage balanced fertilizer use, and protect soil health.

He added that farmers are also being encouraged to adopt nano fertilizers, bio-fertilizers, and sustainable farming methods to boost productivity while reducing environmental impact.

The workshop was organised by the Forum for Indian Journalists on Education, Environment, Health & Agriculture (FIJEEHA) in collaboration with Alliance for Change, Transformation & Innovation (ACTION).

Navneet Anand, President, Fijeeha said, “KRIBHCO has played a sterling role in ensuring seamless fertilizer supplies to millions of Haryana farmers and stands as a shining example of how cooperative-led movements are redefining rural empowerment and strengthening the agricultural ecosystem.”

Highlighting the importance of the sowing season, Pragya Lal Ranjan of ACTION said the Kharif cycle remains central to Haryana’s farm economy, making timely access to quality fertilizers critical for food security and farmers’ incomes.

The workshop also spotlighted KRIBHCO’s push for climate-resilient and environmentally sustainable agriculture.

Vishnoi said KRIBHCO is focusing on raising farm productivity while conserving natural resources and maintaining ecological balance.

As part of the initiative, the cooperative is conducting awareness and training programmes on soil testing, soil health management, and crop-based nutrient management aimed at reducing excessive dependence on chemical fertilizers and promoting balanced fertilizer use.

KRIBHCO is also aggressively promoting nano fertilizers and bio-fertilizers. Officials said nano urea and bio-fertilizers improve nutrient efficiency, cut fertilizer wastage, and reduce environmental pollution, strengthening the long-term sustainability of agriculture.
