Milestone underscores company’s commitment to sustainability and responsible procurement
Worley has officially phased out the provision of single-use plastics across its global offices and fabrication yards, marking a significant step in the company’s sustainability journey.
The initiative covers a wide range of items including plastic straws, cups, lids, water bottles, cutlery, crockery, bags (excluding bin liners), and food containers. It also extends to paper cups with plastic linings, compostable or biodegradable plastics in regions without composting infrastructure, and oxy-degradable plastics. In some locations, additional reductions have been made in packaging and related single-use products.
This achievement has been independently verified across 161 offices and fabrication facilities in 44 countries as of 30 June 2025. Exceptions remain in only seven percent of locations, where local conditions—such as access to safe drinking water, food safety regulations, or contractual requirements—necessitate temporary allowances. Worley continues to collaborate with local teams and customers to identify viable, sustainable alternatives in these areas.
“This milestone reflects our broader sustainability ambition, but we know that maintaining and improving this achievement will require ongoing vigilance,” said Dr. Clare Anderson, Group Director Sustainability Performance at Worley. “Making considered procurement choices and continuing to challenge the necessity of single-use items will be key to maintaining this progress.”
The successful phase-out reinforces Worley’s long-term commitment to reducing environmental impact, driving circular economy practices, and leading by example in the energy, chemicals, and resources sectors.
