ABB joins global tech coalition to fast-track energy transition innovations

The move is designed to fuel innovation across ABB’s portfolio and reinforce the strategic ambitions of its Motion business as it pushes to expand its market lead

Global engineering and automation MNC ABB has struck a new partnership with Energy Impact Partners (EIP), aligning itself with a worldwide network of industrial heavyweights working to speed up breakthroughs in electrification and automation.

The move is designed to fuel innovation across ABB’s portfolio and reinforce the strategic ambitions of its Motion business as it pushes to expand its market lead.

EIP works with its strategic partners to identify, vet, and scale technologies essential to the global shift toward cleaner energy. ABB is banking on that model to accelerate the development of solutions its customers increasingly demand.

“As global technology leader in electrification and automation, we are constantly looking for new and breakthrough innovation to provide customers with energy efficient and decarbonizing solutions,” said Analia Troncoso, Global Head of Strategy, Business Development and Sustainability at ABB Motion.

“We look forward to our partnership with Energy Impact Partners and to the collaboration with innovative startups that will help ABB push the boundaries of technology to help industries outrun leaner and cleaner,” added Chao Wu, Head of ABB Group Ventures.

EIP, which manages more than $4.5 billion in assets and works with over 80 corporate partners, positions itself as a catalyst for industrial innovation. Its model links entrepreneurs with major players in energy and industry, deploying capital across venture, growth, private equity and credit to advance technologies shaping the future energy landscape.

“ABB’s partnership marks an exciting milestone in our journey,” said Hans Kobler, Founder and Managing Partner at Energy Impact Partners. “The power of our model only increases with leverage and diversity of our expanding ecosystem. We are thrilled to welcome ABB into our coalition. Together, we will continue seeking out the companies shaping a better energy future and helping them scale.”

The partnership builds on ABB Ventures’ long-running investment push, which has deployed about $500 million since 2009 into startups across robotics, industrial IoT, AI, cybersecurity, energy transition, e-mobility, smart buildings, and distributed energy.
