Oil India and CSIR join forces for high-impact energy tech push in landmark research pact

Oil India Limited (OIL) has signed a major Memorandum of Understanding with the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), setting the stage for accelerated collaboration in energy-focused research and next-generation technology development.
 
The agreement was formalised on June 15, 2026, at OIL House in Noida, in the presence of senior leadership from both sides, including the CMD of Oil India Limited and the Director General of CSIR, along with the Managing Director of Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) and other top officials.
 
Oil India Limited — a Maharatna CPSE under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas — will partner with Council of Scientific and Industrial Research to drive innovation across the energy value chain, from upstream exploration to downstream operations.
 
Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has backed the initiative as part of broader efforts to strengthen India’s energy security through research-led transformation.
 
The partnership is designed to unlock cutting-edge solutions in hydrocarbon reservoir optimisation, enhanced oil recovery (EOR), renewable energy integration, sustainable energy practices, and the development of critical minerals. It also aims to improve operational efficiency and reduce costs across core oil and gas activities.
 
Officials said the collaboration will combine OIL’s field expertise with CSIR’s deep scientific capabilities to accelerate the development of scalable, cost-effective technologies for India’s evolving energy needs.
 
OIL House, Noida hosted the signing ceremony, which was marked by the participation of senior executives from both organisations, reinforcing the strategic importance of the agreement.
 
The MoU signals Oil India Limited’s push to deepen strategic research partnerships with leading national institutions, positioning innovation as a central pillar of its long-term growth strategy and India’s broader energy transition goals.
