MAIRE has announced that Nextchem, via its subsidiary KT Tech, has secured a contract for early engineering works and proprietary equipment supply for a sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) plant in North Sumatra Province, Indonesia.
The plant is set to produce 60,000 tonnes of SAF annually, efficiently using palm oil mill effluent (POME) as its main feedstock, along with certified used cooking oil. The initiative aims to harness locally available resources and advance economically viable SAF solutions.
The project will utilize Nextchem’s proprietary NX PTU and NX SAF BIO technologies, already licensed for this development. The early engineering phase will support the Final Investment Decision, marking a tangible step toward adopting advanced, low‑carbon aviation technologies.
Fabio Fritelli, Managing Director of Nextchem, said: “This award further confirms the strong market interest in our proprietary SAF technologies. This project represents a tangible opportunity to support the decarbonisation of the aviation sector in Southeast Asia, while reinforcing our positioning as a global technology provider for sustainable fuels.”
