Specialty chemicals company LANXESS has launched a more sustainable version of its proven lubricant additive Additin RC 2515, now available with ISCC PLUS certification. More than 80 percent of the raw materials used in the new variant are derived from sustainable sources and verified according to the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC PLUS) standard. This certification ensures full traceability of renewable materials and independent auditing by accredited institutions. The new version achieves a 34% reduction in product carbon footprint (PCF) compared with the existing product, allowing lubricant manufacturers to enhance the climate performance of their formulations with verified sustainability data.

The additive also carries the LANXESS Scopeblue label, which identifies products made with at least 50 percent recycled or bio-based raw materials and featuring a significantly lower carbon footprint than conventional alternatives.

Designed for extreme pressure (EP) applications, Additin RC 2515 combines sustainability with outstanding performance. The light-colored, low-odor sulfur carrier additive is produced using the mass balance approach, ensuring renewable feedstocks are incorporated throughout the manufacturing process. With its high lubricity and medium sulfur activity, Additin RC 2515 delivers reliable performance under demanding conditions. Its low reactivity with non-ferrous metals makes it particularly suitable for lubricating components made from alloys such as brass and bronze. The additive’s versatility allows it to be used in metalworking fluids, heavy metal-free EP greases, slideway lubricants, and industrial gear oils.

The launch follows the recent ISCC PLUS certification of LANXESS’s Mannheim production site, underscoring the facility’s strategic importance within the company’s global lubricant additives network.

“With ISCC PLUS certification and the more sustainable version of Additin RC 2515, we are sending a clear message: high-performance lubricant additives and sustainability go hand in hand,” said Neelanjan Banerjee, Head of the Lubricant Additives business unit at LANXESS. “Our product gives customers new opportunities to reduce their CO₂ footprint without compromising on quality or performance.”

With this innovation, LANXESS continues to expand its range of certified sustainable products, reinforcing its commitment to supporting customers in meeting the growing demand for climate-friendly solutions across the lubricant industry.
